A rich web of interconnected ecosystems and landscape features support this farm, which is dedicated to sustainable agriculture. The farm is bordered by more than a thousand feet of estuary shoreline and tidal marshes, fed by a stream where you can find salmon running every fall as they reach the culmination of their life cycle. The stream is shaded by water-loving trees and shrubs, which connect to upland forests in the area. These habitats and refuges provide vital connectivity for the wildlife in the area.
The stream winds through beautiful working farmland dotted with grazing sheep whose wool is prized by local fiber artists. Beneath these fields is some of the richest farmland on the Key Peninsula. The sustainable practices used on this land not only protect and preserve the soil from degradation — these practices also prevent harmful runoff, protecting the stream and the estuary as well.
Animals you will encounter include llama, sheep, Maybelle the jersey milk cow, Lance the Clydesdale, Kune-Kune pigs and working dogs-both guardian dogs on duty.

David McDonald has been a resident of the Key peninsula since the 1960’s and began exploring a vision to create a Christmas tree farm in 2009 with first trees decorating peoples holidays in 2016.
The trees he lovingly tends by hand from seedling to soaring heights range in size for typical home grand business centerpieces – from Douglas Fir to varieties of Spruce and Cedars as well as a few more exotic options.
Explore the Christmas Tree groves while you learn how to identify the differences and purpose for each-trees, wreaths and garland. Landscaping evergreens also available. Keep an eye out for the resident wild life-including a family of deer! Breathe deep the fresh air-did you know just 2 full size trees create enough oxygen for a family of 4 each year? See how a tree farm fits into a sustainable ecosystem, and what it takes over the years to go from seedling to your home for the holidays.

In its sixteenth year, Fiber Arts – Threads Through Time is held at the LIC Clubhouse and at the LIC Marina, in conjunction with the Key Peninsula Farm Tour, the oldest Farm Tour in Pierce County. The Fiber Arts Show features more than two dozen artists who demonstrate, exhibit and sell their work. The full gamut of fibers, utilizing traditional techniques and modern adaptations, is on display during the one day festival. There is music at the Clubhouse throughout the day. There will be a van shuttle between the LIC and the Kauikiki Farm (parking is limited at Kauikiki).
Inside our unique clubhouse, vendor displays include quilts, hats, bags, handwoven baskets, buttons, clothing, jewelry, rugs, wall hangings, table decorations, hand tooled leather craft, embroidery, wearable art from silk, alpaca fur and wood, Hardanger or whitework embroidery and more! Demonstrator displays include weaving, spinning and cross stitch. Outside on the LIC grounds there is an antique car show.
Only items made by the artists themselves are available for sale. Admission to the event is free. Lunch is available for purchase. Support for Fiber Arts is through the volunteer LIC Fiber Arts Committee. Money is raised through booth and food sales. Additional support comes from Angel Guild, Bruce Titus Automotive Group, Friends of Pierce County Library and the KP Farm Council.
The LIC will also be hosting the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department and a vaccine clinic for flu, COVID, blood pressure and diabetes. The van will have all childhood disease vaccines available.
“I have always been a visual person and as such was never a good history student. Although I was interested in hearing the stories, if there wasn’t a statue or painting involved, I couldn’t remember anything. My passion for making art led me to the Rhode Island School of Design and ultimately to teaching art at Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma. Along the way, I picked up tapestry weaving and was a partner in a collaborative studio in Tacoma that created large work for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. I work out of my home studio and have pieces in public and private collections around the US. Most of my work now, whether in tapestry or painting, is focused on the environment, particularly the rivers in Washington. Every river tells a story and our watersheds are critical to the health of our environment. I hope my work causes the viewer to reflect on their own experiences with our rivers.”
